| Abstract: | Project to examine factors that affect physician income, including sociodemographic factors, institutional structures, management strategies, compensation mechanisms, and market characteristics. This study examines these five types of variables with respect to physician income percentiles to assess whether they have different effects on physicians with average income than on those with very low incomes or very high incomes. Measures of individual physician characteristics, income, and practice organization will be taken from the CTS Physician Survey, supplemented with data from the Area Resource File, the InterStudy County Surveyor and the UNC conducted Physician Worklife Study. Information from this study will enable scholars and policymakers to identify how changes in the health care system affect different sectors of the physician workforce, and conversely which sectors of the medical profession may be more or less supportive of different types of health reforms. |
