| Abstract: | We propose to evaluate the factors associated with continuation and discontinuation of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) therapy by conducting a survey of a representative sample of NSAID users from a managed care population. We will also investigate switching between traditional NSAIDs and those with COX-2 specificity. The survey will ascertain patient quality of life, satisfaction with treatment, and use of over-the-counter and alternative/complementary medical therapies. We will furthermore leverage this survey data through linkage with an existing claims and chart-review data set containing detailed information on clinical diagnoses and course, physician specialty, and health plan characteristics such as pharmacy benefits. |
