| Abstract: | In 2004, the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) received a HRSA grant of over $1.5 million to address racial and health disparities in birth outcomes in seven Chicago community areas. IDHS is providing a grant to the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services to assess quality of care issues in four of the project communities located on the south and west sides of Chicago. The Michael Reese Health Trust supports the evaluation of the project. Project objectives include: 1) Utilizing available data including Medicaid eligibility and claims data and vital records in project planning and analysis; 2) Planning and designing a methodology for data analysis; 3) Planning and designing a protocol for medical record review of the quality of care provided to pregnant women in project communities; 4) Developing and implementing a provider survey to assess provider perceptions of the quality of medical care in project communities; and 5) Evaluating the results of the medical record review and provider surveys for the project communities to identify specific issues and a curriculum for ongoing physician/clinician training. |
