Abstract: This is a proposal to continue work on the FutureDocs Forecasting Tool originally developed with funding from the Physicians Foundation. The tool is an open source physician projection model that is designed to support decision making about the current and future workforce. The model requires regular updates and adjustments to respond effectively to the needs of users, including medical societies, policy makers, health systems, physicians, and those making decisions about how to deploy the physician workforce to meet the demands of a rapidly changing health care system. In the next phase of the work, our team will incorporate new data and scenarios into the model, maintain the model website, and train stakeholders to use and interpret the model to understand and address the health workforce needs of their local areas.
