| Abstract: | This project will develop means of measuring the true success of rehabilitation programs and other interventions for persons with disabilities, and will address the ultimate goal of such sweeping initiatives as the Americans with Disabilities Act. The first part of the project will provide a measure of social participation for individuals with disabilities. The second part will develop a new instrument to quantify one of the most troublesome barriers--and meaning contributors--to participation in society by people with disabilities: the environment. These reliable and valid measures will be utilized in a statewide population survey of 1800 subjects and will permit analyses of relationships among disability limitations, environmental factors, societal participation, secondary conditions, and quality of life. This survey will provide general population norms for the new Participation and Environmental Factors instruments. |
