| Abstract: | $376,823 to Howard University College of Medicine to study the effect of intensive case management on utilization of health services and quality of life in sickle cell patients with prolonged and frequent hospitalizations. Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder affecting more than 70,000 Americans. As a result, it is an excellent marker to study how services and care can be organized and provided for individuals with chronic conditions. The goal of this study is to develop and implement an intensive disease-oriented, case-managed model and to monitor and analyze outcomes. |
