Abstract: This project will carryout a survey of personal assistance services clients, workers, and case managers in order to compare measures of quality of care, quality of life, client satisfaction and worker satisfaction across modes of service provision. The modes of service provision to be compared include: (1) independent and supported-independent providers (client-directed modes); and (2) agency-employed providers (professionally-managed modes). The study will also compare the outcomes associated with use of family, friends and neighbors as independent providers as compared to services provided by aides previously unknown to the client. The study is being carried out in the context of California's In-home Supportive Services program, with the assistance of state officials.
